Bo Downey 3/26/2026 5:01 PMI just contacted 3 elected officials to urge them towards positive action on renewable energy! Through the letter forms of Citizens' Climate Lobby, I sent letters to the offices of Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla to urge them to create new renewable energy legislation. I also sent a letter to Congressman Brad Sherman urging him to support the Energy Innovation and Climate Dividend Act once it is reintroduced. -
Bo Downey 3/15/2026 11:25 PMThis week I spent about 2 hours researching the California High-Speed Rail project! I ended up falling down a rabbit hole about the legal battle for federal funding of the project. In short, I found that the project is still underway, but the federal government (USDOT under pressure from the Trump Administration) withdrew $4 Billion in funding for the project that had previously been promised by the Biden Administration. CHSRA (California High Speed Rail Association) is now looking within the state to fund the project, which has a supposed completion year of 2033. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Bo Downey 3/15/2026 11:20 PMConvenience is the main factor that influences my transportation options. In order for me to use public transit on the regular, it would need to be reasonably timely and easily accessible, which it usually is not. Especially growing up in Los Angeles, where a bus across the city could take 2+ hours, whereas driving, however annoying, could take half that or less. -
Bo Downey 3/15/2026 11:15 PMToday I drove back to school after visiting home, and to reduce my emissions on my trip, I brought food from home instead of buying packaged food on the road!-
Kinsey Lathbury 3/22/2026 7:52 PMI didn't even think about this, I love getting my random gas station snacks. Thanks for sharing what you did! I'll try it next time I travel home!

Bo Downey 3/14/2026 3:35 PMMy eco challenge is going well! I am home at my parents for the week, so I am easily able to compost straight to our backyard to help manage food waste. -
Bo Downey 3/11/2026 12:46 PMToday, I am back home at my parents place in LA, so I got to put my compost in our backyard bin! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
