Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets

Seafloor Protection
Each day, I will spend at least 5 minutes learning more about how bottom-trawling impacts on the seafloor.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Learn about Biochar
Biochar Production
I will spend 15 minutes learning about biochar and how it can help sequester carbon.
Industry
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Multiple Industry Solutions
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin practicing it in my own life.

Macroalgae Protection and Restoration
Each day, I will spend at least 2 minutes learning more about protecting and restoring macroalgae/seaweed.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Smart Seafood Choices
Ocean Farming

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
annika doutrich ECO #201 10/09/2024 7:14 AMMaking DIY accessories, or shopping second hand for things. On another note, when I was looking at sustainable brands, none of them were affordable. Like a coat was $400. I don't have that kind of money, most middle class people don't either. Even the "affordable" options were expensive. I shop at second stores because of the cheaper prices, and I'm going to continue, but why does being sustainable have to be expensive if you want something new? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Cook With SeaweedWhat recipe did you make and how did it turn out? Will you cook with seaweed again?
annika doutrich ECO #201 10/09/2024 5:31 AMI had instant noodles that had seaweed in them, I honestly didn't even notice, they were pretty good except the broth was extremely salty -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
annika doutrich ECO #201 10/08/2024 11:32 AMI enjoy my walk for the most part, it would be nice if the trimmed the trees that hang down really low. The sidewalk is really bumpy from tree roots, but that can't be fixed without cutting down the trees. I enjoy the bunny that lives by Wolf Hall in the mornings when it's out for breakfast -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
annika doutrich ECO #201 10/08/2024 11:24 AMuse alternatives to palm oil, pulp and reduce paper usage, as well as contacting officials by letter or phone to advocate for the protection of peatlands -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about BiocharCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
annika doutrich ECO #201 10/07/2024 6:06 PMIt's said that it can help retain nutrients in the soil that reduces the need for fertilization. Supporters say it's like the soils in the Amazon called Terra Preta, that were created by Indigenous people centuries ago. However, some people are skeptical, and say that it's harmful due the black dust it creates and point out that no long term studies have been done to test it's effects. -
