Industry
Plastics Audit
Reduced Plastics
I will complete a plastics audit to see where plastics show up in my life and determine how I can reduce the use of single-use plastics.
Electricity
Support Microgeneration in Low Income Countries
Small Hydropower, Micro Wind Turbines, Microgrids
I will make a donation to a nonprofit that installs microgeneration in low income countries.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics; Reduced Plastics
I will avoid buying and using 10 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 10 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Smaller Portions
Reduced Food Waste
I will use smaller plates and/or serve smaller portions when dishing out food.
Transportation
Explore Other Transportation Solutions
All Transportation Solutions
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching other Drawdown Transportation Solutions.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Support Microgeneration in Low Income CountriesHow can micro energy solutions reduce inequities? Why is this important to you?
Miranda Davis (103) 10/22/2024 12:48 PMMicro energy solutions can reduce inequities by allowing low-income households to have affordable energy and renewable energy for their homes. It also allows people living in remote place to have access to this energy for a lower cost. This is important to me because I believe people in low-income areas should have access to cheap renewable energy for their homes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Miranda Davis (103) 10/16/2024 11:05 AMInstead of using single use plastics I can opt for reusable items
Examples can include:
reusable canvas bags instead of plastic bags at grocery stores
reusable cups and water bottles instead of disposable cups and water bottles
metal/reusable plastic silverware and straws instead of disposable single use plastics -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Plastics AuditWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Miranda Davis (103) 10/10/2024 9:50 AMThe hardest plastic for me to cut down on was the single use plastics from food items, this was harder because most food items come in a plastic container. Instead of getting food in single use plastic containers, I have been going to the dining hall more and using their plates and silver wear. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Miranda Davis (103) 10/09/2024 10:10 AMBeises benefiting the local food system, purchasing your produce from local farmers allows you to know exactly where it came from and if they used any pesticides on their crops. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Miranda Davis (103) 10/08/2024 7:01 PMI can implement the other Rs in my life by, reducing the amount of waste I produce, reusing things such as plastic containers, and repairing things such as torn clothing so I can continue wearing it. Implementing these would make me feel good, knowing that I am creating a positive environmental impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Miranda Davis (103) 10/08/2024 6:56 PMBesides producing less waste, smaller food portions can come with health benefits, for example, eating until you are full, then saving the rest for your next meal.
