Family Planning and Education
I will watch Drawdown’s Climate Solutions 101 and share what I learned with others.
Industry
Plastics Audit
Reduced Plastics
I will complete a plastics audit to see where plastics show up in my life and determine how I can reduce the use of single-use plastics.
Electricity
Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Electricity
Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro Wind Turbines
I will spend at least 11 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of micro wind.

Learn More about Silvopasture
Silvopasture
I will spend at least 20 minutes watching videos and/or reading about the environmental benefits of silvopasture.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Hayden Curtin 4/30/2025 5:54 PMIt's interesting to see the difference in education between high-income countries and low-income countries. I think that this is the biggest gap, and if we provide more education for family planning, then we could consume less as a species altogether. Family planning is important because if we didn't have it, people would most likely have children sooner in their lives and more of them, which would lead to more consumption of materials. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Hayden Curtin 4/29/2025 11:12 AMMicroturbines could be placed on the city hall and any tall buildings really. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Hayden Curtin 4/29/2025 5:42 AMI think that personal transportation can feel more efficient, but public transport is better in an efficiency sense. Instead of transporting just one or two people regularly, public transport can move a multitude of people, and the routes it takes keep looping. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?
Hayden Curtin 4/28/2025 10:55 AMThey're pretty neat, but right now they don't even make up close to 1% of the world's energy. Even if the industry were to grow, Drawdown's predictions only have it producing around 1% of the world's electricity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Hayden Curtin 4/26/2025 11:46 AMYou can try to raise awarness of the peat lands so that people know how good it is for the climate -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Hayden Curtin 4/26/2025 10:57 AMI think one of the parts about climate change that feels overwhelming is that it feels like the measurements that we could take aren't being taken up by the government. This is stressful since there might not be a whole lot of time before things get increasingly dire.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Hayden Curtin 4/26/2025 10:01 AMI think one of the hardest things to cut out is packaging. This could be lasting parts that seal plastic containers that you don't use, or other things along that line. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Hayden Curtin 4/26/2025 9:58 AMI could find more ways to reuse things that we have instead of immediately recycling them or throwing them out. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Hayden Curtin 4/26/2025 9:56 AMI recycle every day and make sure that everything goes where it's supposed to. I also have reusable containers that I use pretty much every day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Hayden Curtin 4/26/2025 9:54 AMThere are a lot of single-use containers out there, and that's why I use reusable ones.
