I try to repurpose items that I have previously bought, especially plastics. I try to limit the plastics that I buy to things that I really need; i've switched to using bar soap and other things like deodorant, that comes in cardboard, glass, or paper.

I put a box of reusable grocery bags in my car so that I never forget bags, and this way I can reuse the bags I have instead of buying new plastic or paper bags every time I go to the grocery store.

When I went to Del Monte beach I noticed there were massive piles of seaweed all along the shore for a majority of the span of the beach.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

Eating more fruits and vegetables not only encourages the study and production of crops, it also fuels jobs for millions of workers, farmers, processors, and grocery store workers. Making this change will also benefit the body because you will be eating less junk and more food that is natural. The earth itself is benefited by this because fruits and veggies don't necessarily need to be packed in plastic containers resulting in less waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

When you are eating without distractions, you're much more mindful about what you're eating, how much you're eating, and when you are satisfied.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

Meat is one food group that generally costs more to produce, harvest, and transport. Meat consumption is higher in wealthier regions because this is a priority luxury that many can afford. Raising livestock for human consumption affects our planet very deeply, as excessive amounts of carbon and methane are produced by livestock. As we have learned humans today eat much more meat than our bodies require, leading to deficiencies from other food groups.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I have noticed a lot of construction work in my surrounding area. This improvement of infrastructure will allow others to utilize more time and space outside.
