Smaller Portions
Reduced Food Waste
I will use smaller plates and/or serve smaller portions when dishing out food.
Electricity
Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Calculate My Household Carbon FootprintAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Aurora Cooper (103) 10/12/2024 10:50 PMAfter receiving results about my carbon footprint I can’t help but to think about how much worse others foot prints are. I don’t travel by train or travel much for that matter but I know many others do. And I don’t have the greatest and most amazing carbon footprint but I’m proud that it’s not worse then what it is. I’m happy to not travel by plane and try carpooling more often with friends for the environments sake! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Aurora Cooper (103) 10/12/2024 10:33 PMI’ve begun recycling items such as plastic and cardboard boxes in my dorm room with my roommate. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Aurora Cooper (103) 10/12/2024 10:31 PMI’ve been getting smaller portions of food at the dining hall. I’ve been also trying small amounts of stuff before serving myself a large amount to ensure I’m not wasting food.
