Improved Fisheries
I will ask my local seafood market or grocery store if their seafood is sustainable and share the Seafood Watch resources so they can stock sustainable options.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Eat Mindfully
Reduced Food Waste
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 20 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

Sofia Contreras 3/04/2026 2:28 PMSo far, the ecochallenges have been going well, but a bit challenging since I'm focusing on not using media while I'm eating, ive found that eating outside has helped me alot with this transition, and I'm hoping at some point in this challenge ill be able to eat mindfully inside without any media or going outside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Sofia Contreras 3/04/2026 2:17 PMWhile going on my daily walks ive found that it gives me the opportunity to become familiar with local trails and parks. I'm planning to do daily walks even after this challenge is over. -
Sofia Contreras 3/02/2026 10:53 AMSo far, I'm really enjoying the challenge and having the opportunity to learn more ways to help our planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Sofia Contreras 3/01/2026 6:20 PMIt's a bit difficult since I'm so used to having my phone or the TV on, but this is a nice change, and hopefully, throughout the challenge, I'll get more used to it.-
Sofia Contreras 3/04/2026 2:22 PMHi Kinsey, whats helped me the most with this challenge has been the fact that Ive been eating outside so its kind of a form of entertainment rather than stare at my food for the amount of time im eating, so its kind of been helping me with this transition until im confortable enough to eat without any media even going outside at some point. -
Kinsey Lathbury 3/03/2026 12:38 PMI saw this challenge and I ended up deciding not to do it because I couldn't picture myself eating wtihout any kind of stimulation. I would love to hear if you have any strategies for reducing distractions while eating as you do this challenge!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Sofia Contreras 3/01/2026 6:19 PMI could use this money to pay bills or for other necessities my family needs. I never knew the amount of food we throw out each year would accumulate to that much money!
