REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:46 AMSome of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient include saving money on utility bills, improving indoor comfort, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing your home’s value. It also helps lower overall energy demand, which makes the power grid more reliable and benefits the environment.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityDiversifying our energy supply and improving public health are just two benefits of renewable energy. What other motivators inspire you to consider installing a solar water heater in your home?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:45 AMBesides diversifying energy and improving public health, I’d be motivated to install a solar water heater because it can lower my energy bills, increase my home’s value, and reduce my personal carbon footprint. Plus, it’s a reliable, low-maintenance system that uses clean energy, which feels like a smart long-term investment for both my wallet and the planet. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:37 AMI can advocate for better transportation systems by supporting public transit projects, bike lanes, and pedestrian-friendly areas in my community, and by speaking up at town meetings or through social media. I could also encourage friends and family to carpool, use public transportation, or walk and bike more when possible, showing that cleaner, people-centered transportation options can be practical and improve quality of life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:36 AMIt’s honestly a mix — some parts were easy, like swapping out snacks or trying plant-based meals, but cutting back on foods like beef and processed stuff was tougher because they’re so common and convenient. It takes a little planning and getting used to, but it feels good knowing it makes a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationA round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:35 AMTo reduce the number of flights I take per year, I could plan longer trips so I travel less often, choose destinations I can reach by car or train, and use video calls instead of flying for meetings or events when possible.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHigher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:34 AMMy lifestyle affects the environment in other places through things like clothing made in polluting factories, electronics that rely on harmful mining, and foods like beef or coffee that cause deforestation. I can help by buying local, cutting back on fast fashion, and choosing more eco-friendly products.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Carson Cody 6/03/2025 11:34 AMBamboo alternatives aren’t super common in my community yet — you might find bamboo toothbrushes or straws in a few stores, but not much beyond that. Other sustainable alternatives you can look for include recycled paper products, stainless steel or glass straws, cloth napkins, wooden utensils, and reusable glass or stainless-steel containers. Even small swaps like these help cut down on waste and reduce our reliance on plastics and other harmful materials.
