Knowing the difference between these three statements allows us to make smarter economic decisions as we can tell when it is optimal or not to purchase a certain item. It also allows us reduce our food waste by preventing us from throwing perfectly good food as the "best by" statement simply warns us about the quality of the food and not its safety. We can then also assure our family's safety by correctly interpreting these statements.
