Audrey's actions
Industry
Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
Refrigerant Management
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the climate impact of refrigerants and what climate-friendly refrigerants are by using the links below.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Smaller Portions
Reduced Food Waste
I will use smaller plates and/or serve smaller portions when dishing out food.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Transportation
Try Carpooling
Carpooling
I will commute by carpool 16 miles per day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 60 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Industry
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Multiple Industry Solutions
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin practicing it in my own life.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 45 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Farm Irrigation Efficiency
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of trees and plants in my yard.
Transportation
Stay on the Ground
Telepresence, High-Speed Rail
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Eat Mindfully
Reduced Food Waste
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Audrey Childs 6/03/2025 12:17 PMI implement all of the R's into my daily practice. I can refuse and reduce buying more things. I can reuse, repurpose and recycle by seeing the potential in what things could be after their initial use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Audrey Childs 6/03/2025 12:12 PMI like to take walks in the woods and around my neighborhoods and properties at home. I like to hike in the woods because there isn't much infrastructure and this makes my experience more enjoyable. When I walk around the burbs of Barre, there aren't sidewalks in most places and that would make everyone's walks easier and more enjoyable.-
JULIAN FIORE 6/04/2025 11:27 AMHi Audrey! Going for walks at home is something I have always done as well. I'm from a suburban town in Connecticut and as such there's a lot of hiking trails nearby that I can go to for free and very easily. It's been harder since I came to LA to find places to go nearby to hike or walk where I would be completely surrounded by nature. Have you found any places in LA that give you the same feeling as when you are taking walks at home? I would love some recommendations if you have any, especially ones that aren't affected by the fires!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Audrey Childs 5/30/2025 7:59 AMWhen eating without distractions, I feel that I appreciate and taste more of my food. It makes the experience mindful rather than just something I have to do to stay alive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Audrey Childs 5/30/2025 7:57 AMIn addition to environmental benefits, serving smaller portions can help save money on unnecessary food and push one to reach for more filling and healthy foods, it can also crack down on weight loss if desired. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Audrey Childs 5/30/2025 7:38 AMSpending time outside makes me more grateful and aware of the environment. Learning about the environment in class is nice but when you get to go learn from observations it connects the dots. I think it's important to know about the living and non living things in the place you live. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Audrey Childs 5/20/2025 12:48 PMI access water via a spring at my house that collects runoff from the forest behind our house. It's important we keep the woods clean of litter and limit vehicles like loggers and woods maintenance crews to prevent water pollution. Similarly, large scale city water needs to be kept free of road pollution and littering. Clean up oil/gas spills and don't litter. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Audrey Childs 5/20/2025 12:36 PMInstead of flying with my dad out to Texas to go to a Rodeo, I stayed home with my cousin.
