Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

On rooftops, in parks Pack Square, schools, basically anywhere where enough wind reaches.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Sylvia Blackford 4/23/2025 6:42 AM
I had heard of biomass before, but something that surprised me was the purposeful creation of methane gas.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Sylvia Blackford's avatar
    Sylvia Blackford 4/23/2025 6:06 AM
Learning about geothermal energy, teaching others, and if you have the means, installing a geothermal heat pump in your house.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Sylvia Blackford's avatar
    Sylvia Blackford 4/02/2025 5:56 AM
I had heard about it but I didn't know very much about it before now. The only disadvantage I heard about was that if you don't properly manage your livestock the trees could be damaged.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Sylvia Blackford's avatar
    Sylvia Blackford 3/30/2025 4:12 PM
The only place I drive to often is school, and I already carpool to school with my neighbors every day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Sylvia Blackford's avatar
    Sylvia Blackford 3/28/2025 9:48 AM
It allows me to waste less food because I used to think that some foods weren't safe to eat after the best by date.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
How can you share what you have learned in your research with others?

    Sylvia Blackford's avatar
    Sylvia Blackford 3/28/2025 9:47 AM
Some ways to share your research with others are by having conversations about it with other people or posting about it on social media.

    Sylvia Blackford 3/28/2025 6:29 AM
A lot of people don’t like or are scared of eating food past its best by dates because they think it’s gone bad, but knowing the difference allows you to waste a lot less food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Why is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?

    Sylvia Blackford's avatar
    Sylvia Blackford 3/28/2025 6:06 AM
Taking action on climate change is important to me because we're killing the earth faster and faster. Our generation's children and/or grandchildren will either be dead or living on Mars if we don't change something.

So far it's going really well! I didn't realize how much stuff on this list I already do, and that really surprised me!
