  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/30/2025 5:36 PM
The needs and experiences related to family planning vary significantly depending on factors like location, socioeconomic status, and cultural beliefs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/30/2025 5:32 PM
other renewable energy sources like wind and solar, they offer high energy density and predictability. This makes tidal energy the better and more reliable choice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/30/2025 5:27 PM

In Oakley, Asheville, NC, micro turbines could be potentially installed on buildings with significant height and open exposure to wind, such as tall buildings, apartment complexes, or even on the higher levels
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

I had never heard of biomass technology but I like the sound of it and it seems renewable
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/23/2025 10:42 AM
    Public and Gov Investment
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/21/2025 5:46 PM
I have noticed the nature around our school and my house is pretty. Something that could make my walks more possible would be a sidewalk along roads that are important for homeless people. I have noticed that the roads that are close to very populated neighborhoods near my house have no sidewalks.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/21/2025 5:41 PM
    reusing
    repurposing
    resisting
    refurbish
    rethink

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/21/2025 5:37 PM
Richer countries eat more meat than other places because of high urbanization. Urbanization is when people transition to urban areas from rural places.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Why is protecting the seafloor important?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/21/2025 5:25 PM
1- It protects many lifeforms that live and thrive on the bottom
2- It releases carbon and stirs up sediment that harms fish and hurts the animals
3- It is morally incorrect to do this because they discard animals like sea turtles, seabirds, valuable fish, and sea mammals
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
What did you learn about seaweed and its importance to coastal ecosystems?

    Waylon Bird's avatar
    Waylon Bird 4/21/2025 5:16 PM
For a more permanent seaweed barrier, the permanent sargassum boom will provide you with a longer-lasting solution to control. The permanent seaweed barrier lasts six times longer than other styles of seaweed control barrier, making it ideal for extended use around your beach or shoreline, protecting it from aggressive floating seaweed.
