  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/30/2025 6:27 PM
To express yourself without buying clothes or fast fashion, you could create a different kind of art, or just make creative designs on your own clothes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/30/2025 10:50 AM
I learned what tidal energy was, how it’s used, and its benefits. Tidal energy is renewable and predictable, but needs research, along with places to apply them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/29/2025 11:19 AM
To protect peatlands, you can block drainage canals, plant native plants in them, and if you live far away from one, you can advocate for or donate to renewal causes
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/29/2025 11:07 AM
Possibly near Pack square, because it’s open, and wind could be harvested there.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/28/2025 11:17 AM
Besides sequestering carbon, biochar has potential to generate electricity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/28/2025 11:06 AM
After I saw my carbon footprint, I found that I could be better about eating processed or packaged foods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/28/2025 10:50 AM
People in poorer countries eat less meat because meat is more expensive, and less available. Eating meat results in damaging the environment, and is unhealthy to our bodies at the extent that we eat it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/28/2025 10:39 AM
I could reduce my use of single-use plastics, and learn what plastics I can recycle. These "Rs" make me feel accomplished that I'm helping the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/24/2025 11:08 AM
I did not know anything about biomass before this. I learned about methane digesters, which was interesting because they produce zero waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Oliver Holloway's avatar
    Oliver Holloway 4/23/2025 10:35 AM
Public/government investment would help, along with possibly community engagement and investment.
