  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

I learned that if we keep women working and in school taking birth control then they will most likely have less children because of how educated they are. Them being educated helps them because they will learn that they have a better chance of raising a successful child if that child has more resources.
The needs from people in different countries are that some countries might not have better access to birth control pills so they could limit the amount of kids they have. Compared to other countries that have easy access to birth control , they will have kids at the right age and raise them in a healthy household. This comparison is probably part of the reason why some countries are in more poverty, because they have more kids that use more of their resources.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/30/2025 5:54 AM
I learned that they need a lot of work to make it a part of our society and that a lot of people are not willing to invest. Tidal wave energy is different from wind or solar energy because we won't run out of waves like we could if it wasn't windy that day, this is because we can make our own waves using underwater turbines.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
How can micro energy solutions reduce inequities? Why is this important to you?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/29/2025 6:34 AM
Microturbines in my city could potentially be placed in our mountains or on some of our rooftop buildings.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
What was the most interesting thing to learn about sustainable aquaculture practices?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/29/2025 6:04 AM
The most interesting thing I learned about sustainable aquaculture practices was learning about how they farm fish in a healthy way that helps humans and the ocean.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/29/2025 5:53 AM
My diet is currently impacting deforestation because I use a toothpaste that has palm oil. To fix this I can find a better toothpaste to use that is Eco friendly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/28/2025 6:02 AM
Other benefits that come from eating smaller portions are you being healthier, not wasting good food, saving you time by not having to make bigger portions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/28/2025 5:58 AM
Instead of wasting all of my money on food I didn't eat I would rather use this money for savings.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/28/2025 5:52 AM
Eating more fruits and vegetables helps me feel better and healthier, but it helps our planet by choosing to not eating packaged items.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/24/2025 5:41 AM
No I haven't learned about biomass before this but one thing that surprised me was that herbaceous was a main source of feed stock for electricity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Emma Beasley's avatar
    Emma Beasley 4/23/2025 6:11 AM
An investment that seems most feasible to me is passive geothermal heat pumps, this is because it seems like a cheaper option in the long run while helping the earth.
