READ Quebec's principles for a just transition AND/OR PARTICIPATE in the Sept 27 Climate March

For the week of Sept 25 to Oct 2, please read the documents attached AND IF YOU CAN, please attend the Sept 27 Climate March. Many people and organisations feel that the government is dragging its feet on the important changes required to meet our climate commitments. For your post, reflect on the value of mass demonstrations. Include a photo of a protest banner or slogan that you find effective (if you can't attend the event then find a photo on the web from other climate marches).

Transportation

SiA Homework for Sept 4 - PRACTICE POST

Write an Ecochallenge POST to our team, briefly stating how you currently commute to Vanier. In Quebec, because we have a lot of hydro electric power, one of the main source of carbon emissions is from transportation. What commuting options do you have that would be healthier for you and the planet? Will you be considering any changes for this semester? If so, select or create an EcoChallenge action. If not, explain what your particular challenges are and what you could do to help other people in your situation (e.g. organise car sharing, propose a bus shuttle, etc.)

SiA Homework for Sept 4 - PRACTICE POST

On Sept 4, we will have 3 guests come talk to us about sustainability initiatives at Vanier. In preparation, please read over VANIER'S 5-YEAR SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PLAN 2018-2023 and then write an EcoChallenge post that includes the following: - What do you think about the plan? Is it ambitious enough? Is there anything missing or superfluous? From your own observation and experience, how well is Vanier doing? List some questions that you would like to ask our speakers regarding Sustainability at Vanier? - Identify at least 3 initiatives that you are potentially interested in contributing to this semester and explain why. (Note there is a column labelled student involvement.) For more detailed information, you can also consult the 2020 VANIER ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT in the links.

SIA Homework For Sept 4- Practice Post : Regarding Vanier's Sustainability action plan i think that their plan is very ambitious and that bringing environmental content could really make a difference in life especially if its in every program . Another thing they aim is to have more garden visits and partnerships adding at least one with the French Block B class and they are continuing the promotion of complementary courses for the students. Another one would be to give the students tools and resource centers where a student can be aided to either work on homework or projects in their courses , this also aims to highlight the students projects and have at least 2 sustainability projects each year. Another goal they have is to educate and make the students aware about the importance of waste management , sustainable transportation and water consumption ect.. Reduce the waste output by 20%, Recycle 50% of Vanier’s outgoing waste. Vanier as a whole is doing pretty well after reviewing their sustainability website but of course there are always solutions to all of this , one of the initiatives that I would recommend is to add compost around the school because yes they have a recycle and garbage but that isn't enough the compost would aid environmentally to the issue of consumption at the school. Another Initiative would be to incorporate environmental projects in each course at least one in order to help the sustainability of the environment or to put in aware more the students about this certain topic. The last initiative that I would recommend would be to add a lot more trees near the garden in Vanier because this would create a better air to breath since trees produce oxygen , and this will be also beneficial for students since they can breath better air.

My AHA moment was when I realized how much processed food people have in their pantry and how this is truly ruining their body and mind and that they should stick instead to delicious and organic nutrients in order to evoke a better spirit for them inside and out and not for them to worry about certain diseases later on in their life for have eaten processed foods before .

Hi my name is Ricardo ,i love to sing and dance but not only that also I like to play sports I am highly influenced by Fashion such as brands like Christian Dior Loro Piana , Burberry , Nike , Zegna, Brioni and much more , I am in the Arts And Communication program here at Vanier College, my main goals regarding the Ecochallenge program is too only use organic nutrients to my every day life meaning that whenever I consume meals it cant be processed food and also another thing would be to recycle things that should be recycled on the street even near the sidewalks this would help to remove more pollution to this world , and the same for the processed food not only it is bad for you but it also comes mainly from factories who do a lot of bad actions and processed food is very common in fast food chains and also in cheap items in super markets which can cause many problems such as cancer and heart disease if not too careful there are even more diseases that can be got from processed foods.

Hi Ricardo, it is great that you are motivated to eat better. Maybe explore your food choices can not only improve your own health, but also the health of our environment (soils, water quality, air quality, biodiversity, etc.) Make an effort to use facts and references to support your claims.

How I currently commute to Vanier regarding environnemental practices is by taking the metro which emits less carbon dyoxide into the atmosphere , knowing the fact that Quebec holds alot of hydro electrical power we should all use that to our advantage to ease up the accumulation of polution and some of the changes this semester that I will be initiating is to use the car only for long distances but everyday activities like going to my friends and going to the gym I will either get there by metro or by walking and to help other people in this context would be to let them know these solutions and try to show them how these actions can heal the world and prevent the world from dying. Car sharing or bus shuttling are good examples for this to prevent these issues from continuing to happen.
