Sawyer's actions

Industry

Practice the 5 Rs

Recycling

I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Industry

Recycle Everything I Can

Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Transportation

Go for a Daily Walk

Walkable Cities

I will take a walk for 10 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks

Research Bottom-Trawling Seafloor Impacts

Seafloor Protection

Each day, I will spend at least 10 minutes learning more about how bottom-trawling impacts on the seafloor.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Electricity

Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives

All Electricity Solutions

I will research and tell 2 people each day about the benefits of alternative energy sources like wind turbines, solar energy, geothermal energy, and methane digesters.

DAILY ACTION

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

On my daily walks I have noticed lots of trees and the environment around me, but I have also noticed that people have littered and are using motor vehicles when they could be walking. I don't think any infrastructure changes are needed. I have enjoyed them and am going to make it a habit.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Why is protecting the seafloor important?

    • TEAM CAPTAIN
Protecting the seafloor is very important because it is home to many species who use it as a hatching and breeding ground. They need to have it for shelter too.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

Considering implementing these make me feel like I can actually make a contribution to the change in our pollution all across our world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Some more "Rs" you could add to my daily practice to reduce my waste is Refurbish, Reinvent, and Rewatch.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

I think it would be helpful to communicate about our future generations and mention that we need to provide a safer less polluted life for them.
