Celebrating Passover with the family was a great excuse to discuss some of these issues and tactics
  • Reflection Question

Today is the last day. I really enjoyed being a part of the SEEDS team. On my walk today I picked up trash too. Every person makes a difference  :)

I truly can't believe that the month has flown by; there were so many additional challenges I wanted to get to.
  • Reflection Question
    Materials Research Cement Alternatives
Concrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but may its carbon footprint is not obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?

    Sarna Salzman 4/24/2019 2:02 PM
US DOT is in favor of using fly ash to replace portland cement in mixes: https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/Pavement/recycling/fach03.cfm

And let this be a plug for using local Black Locust instead of imported pressure treated lumber :)

This challenge has been such a rewarding experience. Working on myself and my impact on this earth has brought many changes to my daily choices and also has shown light on positive choices I have already been making!
  • Reflection Question
    Materials Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Alissa Aparicio 4/24/2019 11:28 AM
I try to share stories and news articles that inform the public of what's happening with our environment.  I am continually working on my own part knowing that's where change starts first.  I know that my little part makes a difference and hope to inspire others to start in small ways as well.  It makes it seem less daunting.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate in the Ecochallenge. I have amped up my efforts to be a good steward of the planet!
  • Reflection Question
Electricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Kevin Kinnan 4/24/2019 8:25 AM
I've been turning off unneeded lights & appliances as soon as possible to reduce electrical use, and not turning them on unless absolutely necessary. We keep the temperature of our home lower to conserve energy and have programmed our thermostat to reduce the temperature while we're sleeping.
