How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    zack page 2/25/2020 5:29 PM
my transportation choices can have a large impact on my social engagement with my community  because If I choose to drive myself all the time then I wouldn't meet anyone new and actually look at a potentially nice view on the way to work or school. My experience would differ from walking or riding transit compared to driving because if it's a really nice day outside then I can experience the nice warm morning air and if I rode transit I could meet potentially new friends.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    zack page 2/25/2020 5:20 PM
people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places because they have the financial stability to obtain meat which is usually expensive and they are usually more educated about the benefits in protein while eating it. Eating more meat effects our bodies in a positive way between our body needs it to get stronger. I believe it helps our planet in a way by recycling the animal that's been living off earths surface. It could effect other people negatively because they will call it animal cruelty and. these people are most likely vegans.

The first step was changing the lightbulbs un my apartment LED lightbulbs. LED lightbulbs don't contain mercury and other dangerous toxins that traditional fluorescent lightbulbs do. Not only are they more energy efficient and better for the environment, but because LED lightbulbs do not need to be replaced as frequently, they will save us money in the long run, and on our electric bill. The second step is to educate family and friends on the importance of this issue and encourage them to make the switch.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    Zack Schroeder 2/24/2020 1:12 PM
You can incorporate all of them all the time. it doesn't matter the situation you just have to take the time and effort to do the necessary steps to complete them. it makes me feel like im doing something good for the earth and making it better.

Decreasing my driving and only driving when necessary definitely is better for my community.  Decreasing my driving decreases the amount of emissions and greenhouse gases I release into the atmosphere which lowers my impact toward global warming.  Also walking to destinations instead of driving is defiantly enjoyable, especially on nice days, but it is hard to walk places on cold winter days instead of driving.

    Calum Dils 2/24/2020 12:43 PM
People in rich countries eat more meat than people in others is because rich countries are able to pay for a large variety and quantity of meat and the meat in rich countries is able to be transported very easily.  People in less rich countries do not have the wealth to afford expensive and large varieties of meat and they do not have the wealth to transport mass amounts of meat.
Likewise, eating meat can affect our bodies, planet, and other people.  Eating meat raises the chance of cancer, obesity, and heart disease for humans.  Also raising cattle, chicken, and pigs can create a lot of greenhouse gases and the transport of meat releases greenhouse gases which relates to global warming of our planet.  This can affect other people by creating this increase in greenhouse gases and warming the whole planet.

I think what’s next for me is to research more ways to reduce my energy use and see what appliances I can use.  Changing the lightbulbs has saved money and using less electricity like turning down the heat, turning off lights, and unplugging appliances when not in use can also save money and reduce the use of electricity.

I think people in richer countries eat more meat because its so obtainable to get and it has good taste. People who aren't able to eat meat are some that might no be able to get the opportunity to eat meat, they tend to eat plant based foods they can grow. Eating meet affects the planet by causing climate change by fossil fuels and animal methane.
