How does improving your home's (or office's) energy efficiency help you better live out your values?

I chose to upgrade the window frames in order to limit the waste of heat - this was good either for the temperature of the house, than for being more sustainable - with the added value that the investment (apart from paying itself on the long term for a leaner gas bill) was supported by a tax deduction by the Italian government.  This means that me and my family are living at the same temperature as before, but being aware of using much less (about -35%) gas.
