Protect our watershed - learn and do

The Tualatin watershed is crucial to our community's well-being. Learn more about the conservation and restoration activities of the past and present that are ensuring the health of our watershed. Pick an action from the following options: 1) Switch to organic or slow-release fertilizers, 2) Replace a non-permeable surface with a permeable one, 3) Always pick up after pets (if you notice a location, park, or greenspace with a pet waste problem, find a way to improve the disposal infrastructure), 4) Plant tough/hardy plants that require little or no extra water/fertilizer, 5) Use roof water or greywater in the garden instead of having it run directly to the street or down the drain.

Smaller protions are also, if not easy, at least expected to be rewarding.  Or am I the only one who's put on 4 lbs since this started?

Reducing animal products (meat) has been pretty easy for me - especially hearing about the coronavirus conditions in slaughterhouses... ugh!

  • Reflection Question
    Food Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

I was raised to avoid waste but composting only occured to me recently. Im a latecomer but now a true believer.  Americans currently waste approx. 40%* of the food they buy. We can do better!  Buy less quantity, buy better quality, take only want you can consume healthily.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

Richer countries can afford to eat more meat & do so because their corporations & culture educates them to think thats desirable.  Can't tell you how mnay smart pepole think that protein is the most important macronutrient & that only meat really gives you enough protein, Geez!
