Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

Access, habit, 'convenience'.  I enjoy meat still. But I don't like factory farming or packing plants. I still purchase beef from a small, local producer. I've pretty much stopped eating other meat because I can't access local producers, or they are cost prohibitive.
