    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    Mira Saturen 1/31/2020 9:32 PM
Sometimes when I am sorting through stuff in my room, I will just through the entire pile of stuff i don't need into the trash, even if some of it is recyclable. Now i always try to sort them out better.

That's great.  Me too!  Once you have the consciousness about the impacts of the choices you are making it motivates you to take the little bit of effort needed to have a positive impact.  It feels infectious doesn't it?
  • Reflection Question
    Food Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Mira Saturen 1/31/2020 9:30 PM
Most vegetables such as potatoes and carrots don't actually need to be peeled, even though many people do. The tops that have to be cut off can be made into soup stock. Also, you can use vegetables of which the entire thing is edible.

If you didn't see Anya's post, this is another reminder that everyone should get ecosia. It is a great alternative to google, and their profits aren't just benefitting a large cooperation. Ecosia also uses the money they make to plant trees around the world wherever they are most needed.

    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Mira Saturen 1/18/2020 8:59 PM
One thing that I have always noticed, is that when I am on my bike or walking, it seems that there are so many more cool things to see around me. In the car, all the surroundings blur together and I never notice nearly as much detail. Walking and biking is much more interesting as well as better for the environment.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Mira Saturen 1/14/2020 7:50 PM
We are so lucky to live in a country where meat is easily accessible. However, many people around the world don't have this privilege. Meat farms, especially livestock, produce a ton of emissions including many greenhouse gasses. They also take lots of land and resources away from more important causes.
