Stop over chemical reacting!!: Intro to the Carbon Cycle

Climate change is occurring because of a phenomenon that is also a very basic chemical reaction. When fossil fuels burn, carbon dioxide is produced. Usually, this reaction balances out as carbon dioxide is then used during photosynthesis. However, the amount of carbon being produced currently, due to our overuse of fossil fuels, is tipping this delicate balance. We'll talk more about the effects later on...in the meantime let's learn about how to reduce the ways WE start chemical reactions that create carbon. Use the link below to measure your carbon footprint.

Practice the 5 R's

Recycling

I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.

  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Jesse Rho 1/22/2021 7:48 AM
Because meat probably costs more than non meat products. eating more meat is bad for the planet because of cow farts and animal cruelty.
  • Reflection Question
    Industry Practice the 5 R's
What are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

Reusing because sometimes I will drink from a plastic bottle at home but I should be using a reusable cup
  • Reflection Question
Electricity Stop over chemical reacting!!: Intro to the Carbon Cycle
What's one way you can either offset or limit the amount of carbon you are producing?

    Jesse Rho's avatar
    Jesse Rho 1/15/2021 7:55 AM
ONe way you can limit your carbon output is to use solar power instead of non solar

  • Reflection Question
Electricity Intro to the Carbon Cycle
    1. Where does carbon originate? 2. How is carbon released? 3. Where does carbon go once it's released? 4. What is the connection between carbon change, fossil fuel use, and the carbon cycle?

    Jesse Rho's avatar
    Jesse Rho 1/07/2021 7:54 AM
    1. Carbon was the same from the start 2. Carbon comes from dead organisms that emit it. 3. Carbon goes into supporting life after it is released. 4. animals breathe out the carbon which is then burned which emits fossil fuels
