Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

I know in India, where I am from, they eat meat once or twice a week, not daily. like in the U.S.  Meat is expensive.  So there is less of carbon footprint from India eating meat than the US.
