Industry

Practice the 5 R's

  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

Meat is more expensive and harder to produce, so people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places. Eating more meat is not as good for your body as eating mostly fruits and vegetables. It is also worse for the environment because the livestock and meat production adds to the air pollution.
  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use More Fruits And Veggies
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

When I eat more fruits and vegetables my body feels better and healthier and it also helps the planet by eating less processed foods that are made in ways that are not environmentally friendly.
  • Reflection Question
    Industry Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    Jillian Owens's avatar
    Jillian Owens 3/19/2021 3:25 PM
I can use objects that I would normally just throw away to make other things like decorations and art projects. I can also try to buy things that won't create a lot of waste, like buying big bags of food instead of individually packaged food. I like implementing these "R's" because it makes me feel like I am doing something proactive to help the Earth. I also feel less wasteful.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

My field hockey team now has virtual meetings to watch film, and it turned out to be much more convenient. Now we can record the meeting for people who can't attend to watch and it is easier for us all to see the film.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Healing & Renewal Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Jillian Owens's avatar
    Jillian Owens 3/15/2021 1:45 PM
I tend to overeat when I am distracted by my phone or the TV. When I eat with no distractions I am more aware of myself getting full and I end up eating less.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Try Carpooling
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I feel like at college I usually carpool anywhere I go. I try to carpool to the grocery store, field hockey practices, and when I go shopping.
  • Reflection Question
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

The weather has been very nice recently so I have enjoyed walking outside. Since there is a lot of construction going on outside my dorm, it makes it very inconvenient and long to walk to the canal to walk along the path.
