Got our new waste food recycling bin from the council yesterday. Put it straight into action.

  • Richard Mott 2/03/2020 11:52 PM
Our local council does a pretty good job of making recycling easy

What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

Buildings and Cities Upgrade My Windows
How does improving your home's (or office's) energy efficiency help you better live out your values?

    Richard Mott 1/21/2020 12:08 AM
We recently replaced all of our windows at home when we built an extension. What I didnt understand was why they all have to have trickle vents on them. Seems to me that they defeat the energy efficiency improvement by letting in a significant amount of cool air. Apparently it is to do with health..... see link

Electricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Richard Mott 1/13/2020 10:46 PM
I have used various small renewable electricity suppliers for years now. Want to work out how to get a renewable (anaerobic digestion etc) gas supply - I believe it is becoming more of available now. e.g:-
    https://www.ecotricity.co.uk/our-green-energy/our-green-gas/what-is-green-gas

    https://www.greenenergyuk.com/

Current supplier offsets the carbon from the fossil gas that we use.

What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Richard Mott 1/07/2020 2:41 AM
We decided to drive to France for a holiday instead of flying. Once we worked out that it would only take us 4 hours longer to drive,  give us much more flexibility and allow us to take more kit it was an easy decision to make.
