Fumiko's Actions
Land Sinks
Buy Bamboo
Bamboo Production
When they are available, I will purchase products made from bamboo instead of wood, plastic, or metal.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Electricity
Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
Methane Digesters
I will watch a video about methane digesters (also commonly known as anaerobic digesters).
Land Sinks
Forest-Friendly Foods 2
Tropical Forest Restoration
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.

Fumiko Mochizuki 9/28/2020 7:58 PMThank you for your comment, Cindy! There are quite a lot of these plates of information in Tokyo. And I thought that many of you would be surprised by Japanese's vertical writing! (Japanese can be written in both horizontal and vertical writing) -
Cindy Godwin 9/28/2020 12:46 PMSo interesting. Incredible to imagine Captain Hino creating such a significant invention in your neighborhood. Thank you for sharing this Fumiko!

Fumiko Mochizuki 9/14/2020 5:57 PMI'm so happy that I won the phase 1 Eco-challenge in Asia.
As a prize, I received a nice bottle of wine! That was awesome! Thank you so much!
While I was choosing my wine, I learned there are different types of organic agriculture.
1. Sustainable
2. Organic
3. Biodynamic
I picked a bottle of Chardonnay, which is from a biodynamic farm in Argentina.
Biodynamic wines are wines made employing the pseudo-scientific biodynamic methods both to grow the fruit and during the post-harvest processing. Biodynamic wine production uses organic farming methods (e.g., employing compost as fertilizer and avoiding most pesticides) while also employing soil supplements prepared according to Rudolf Steiner's formulas, following a planting calendar that depends upon astrological configurations and treating the earth as "a living and receptive organism. (Wikipedia)
Try to check-in the Eco-challenge website every day and get your prize at the end of this phase!
