It’s down to the wire...Plastics Vs Carbon Killers. At this point it’s anyone’s game but the bottom line is Siskiyou Climate Crew rocks!!!!
  • Reflection Question
    Transport Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

    Tia McLean 1/30/2020 9:44 PM
I can vote.  I can use public transportation.  I can continue to pick up trash at our neighborhood
Bus stop to make it clean and more appealing.
  • Reflection Question
Transport Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?

    Tia McLean 1/30/2020 9:40 PM
Most of my trips are to and from work with my kids. I do think riding an electric bike would help reduce my carbon footprint.  I think my biggest dilemma with kids and transportation is the cold and dark and scurrying about to various after school activities.
This challenge has helped me think
More about carpooling, ride shares and just
Cutting out trips that aren’t vital.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Use Buy Bamboo
Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

    Tia McLean 1/30/2020 6:38 PM
We bought bamboo toilet paper for our family and for a friend today at Shop N’ Kart.  There were two brands and two sizes available.  It’s more expensive than conventional tp but more sustainable!

Today, like we do most Monday mornings, we shared about how we helped over the weekend.  My students shared about how they helped the earth by thanking the water, taking care of plants, eating all their food, and picking up trash.  Thank you change makers!

  • Tia McLean 1/27/2020 6:40 PM
Our friend Abdi came in and shared stories with my
Class about living the nomadic life in Somalia.  In the morning you would share a gourd of camel milk and that would last you all day, until you had goat milk for dinner.  Needing less reduces our impact!

super fascinating article about American consumers
    compared to other countries!

  • Reflection Question
    Transport Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Tia McLean 1/26/2020 6:41 PM
In one of the articles I read
It suggested having airlines give folks
A carbon offset option when they purchased
their tickets.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if
the cost of your ticket was reduced if
you purchased a carbon offset or if folks were
just asked to take that extra step of buying
an offset.  If it was just a social norm to
    offset before you fly?
Not flying at all would be better but this would
    be and interesting first step.

I’m really loving all of these meatless meals.  Tonight we are having loaded baked potatoes with beans, and last night Kari made yummy tofu tacos!
