I think some huge barriers that women face when trying to get equal representation and participation is access to education. Getting higher education is a lot harder when there aren't as many opportunities, especially for women of color and for those who have family to take care of. Another barrier they face is psychological. Growing up without representation in media, politics, and education can make girls feel that they can't achieve those goals because being successful is inherently seen as masculine.
