Materials Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Vanessa Herman 5/12/2020 3:59 PM
There are many ways that someone can express their personality, creativity, and values through sustainable fashion. When someone is in need of a new article of clothing, purchasing from thrift stores. garage sales, or online sellers/swap sites is a great way to express personality and individuality. Reusing items of clothing once owned by other people helps prolong the life of many materials and reduces the demand for more clothes to be produced at higher rates (created through fast fashion). Also, repairing, redesigning, and upcycling clothing shows and individual's creativity without purchasing unnecessary fashion. In addition, it is extremely good to look past the labels and do research into a company. Greenwashing, the act of a company claiming that their products are "eco-friendly" or "green" without any proof that they are, continues to trick many people into buying their products. In conclusion, purchase second-hand or from a verified fair and ethical store and pay attention to what you're putting your money into!

Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Vanessa Herman 5/12/2020 3:28 PM
Human activities such as sedimentation, pollution, climate change, deforestation, landscape changes. and urban growth are all serious threats to the health of water systems. To help improve the health of water systems, you can implement rainwater harvesting systems and build wells to collect and reuse naturally provided water.
