I was able to support four microloans through Kiva! One is going to a strawberry farmer in Moldova, one to a grocer in Ghana, one to an embroiderer in Tajikistan, and one to a beader in Palestine. All four are women.

Women and Girls Give a Microloan
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?

    Liz Hardee 4/24/2019 9:21 AM
    Honestly, I have no idea!

Last day!! However, I think I am going to try to keep incorporating vegan meals into my diet, because eating vegan makes me feel better overall and because I am trying to shift my diet anyway as the planet becomes less able to sustain western diets.

OK, so I emailed Metro to find out how to recycle bioplastics (there's nothing about them on their website). Here is what they emailed back:
Most of them are just garbage in the Portland area. City of Portland has approved the following compostable bags/liners to be put in the compost bin but it is limited specifically to this list: Biobag "Certified Compostable", EcNow Tach "Compost Me", EcoSafe "6400 Line", Glad "Compostable Kitchen" and Natur-Tec "Natur-Bag Compostable".

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

We have compounding crises in the form of climate change, other forms of pollution, and extraction.

Killin it on vegan breakfasts the last couple of days, lots of peanut butter. :)

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Liz Hardee 4/22/2019 11:29 AM
I always assumed the date on a food package was the date after which the food began to pose a health risk, so knowing this is not the case means I can use foods approaching or past these dates rather than wasting them.

Ate a meatless meal yesterday but failed on my personal vegan challenge because it had cheese.

The haircut from the woman-owned salon turned out awesome :)

If anybody in Portland needs to take their bike to the shop, there's a women owned shop called Gladys Bikes in N. Portland.
