    Industry Practice the 5 R's
What are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

Some more "R"s that I could add to my daily practice, is to reduce the stuff that I don't and do need. If I could get away from keeping things that I don't need and getting them in the first place, this could help a lot!

Today I reduced my animal product intake by not eating any meat. I ate a ton of fruits and vegetables this morning with a bagel and peanut butter. Instead of drinking milk, I bought almond milk and I actually like it better! For a snack I had a bag of assorted nuts and seeds. And I plan to have dinner tonight with no meat!

Today I took a walk around Niagara falls and the trails. I went to enjoy nature and take in my surroundings. Niagara falls is a beautiful place and I love going there on days when I have extra time.
  • Reflection Question

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

Today I took a walk through Sweden Town park. I went through the trails and walked by the water. Spending time outdoors enhances your sense of place because it makes you feel welcomed in an area outside of your own. It allows you to view the world differently and see what is really going on.
  • Reflection Question
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

Family planning is central to gender equality and women’s empowerment, and it is a key factor in reducing poverty.  Every place is different therefore they require different things.

My drawdown ecochallenge is going good! I have helped the environment by eating meatless meals, being mindful while eating, and carpooling. I carpool everyday with my roommates.
  • Reflection Question
Action Track: Building Resilience Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

    • There is broad agreement that most regenerative agriculture practices are good for soil health and have other environmental benefits. No-till reduces soil erosion and encourages water to infiltrate soils, although it can require greater use of herbicides. Cover crops do the same, and can also reduce water pollution.

Eating mindfully at dinner is really nice! I am able to concentrate on how fast I eat and realize what I am putting into my body. This also helps make stronger relationships with people I am eating with because I can focus on them too.
  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Brylie Hapeman's avatar
    Brylie Hapeman 3/08/2021 12:28 PM
This is mostly attributed to changing diet preferences that favored protein over other nutrients to support fitness goals. I personally am supposed to be eating a lot of chicken, eggs, and milk to get a right amount of protein to support my goals. I need these to gain more weight and provide protein after workouts!
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Try Carpooling
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I carpool every Wednesday and Sunday to my soccer games, and I travel with 3 other people! We trade every day who is driving!
