Now this may read a little gross but...... we are always looking for ways to eliminate using plastic and if it must be used, reduce said usage. Years ago, we began 'reusing' the bags we use to pick up what our dog 'deposits". That is, I figured out it's pretty easy to grab the bottom of a bag with stuff in it, invert it and pull the upper part down, and grab another round of stuff!  Now, this means saving the bag a few days and in the summer it's a little ripe in the carport but for most of the year it's not an issue and some bags get 4 uses.......... Rufus is a 45 lb mix, and sometimes doesn't leave much behind.  We also use bread bags and such........

Now is the time I mow the dead leaves in our yard and use those for mulch. I have a lot of plants and places for mulch. In the backyard, we leave most of the leaves to rot in place. While they do, a lot of the local birds like to poke and scratch around for food.  It's like we have every Brown Thrasher, Eastern Towhee, or Northern Cardinal from the neighborhood, in our backyard, ha ha.  I can always find a Rough Earth, Brown, or Worm Snake. A couple times a Copperhead but I simply move those (to a neighbor I don't like.... just kidding!).  We have a small lake across the street, ringed by a tract of tall mixed pine/hardwoods. I place (toss!) the Copperheads over there.  I do "place" them as I am banished from 'tossing' critters into the woods. Even the tiniest caterpillar must be gently placed lest I receive notice from my secretary of homeland security.

I did used to work at the EPA as well as a company making solar hot water systems. It's been a long-time interest of mine.

I do a lot of these already so it's nice to be able to click that option!  Finally, I get credit, ha ha. But still, I can see I have a way to go to beat out Marianne - that's my real goal! ha ha ha ha (I'm still thinking about the staff day scavenger hunt......... ). : )
