  • Reflection Question
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

You can help protect and restore the temperate forests by purchasing paper and wood products that are FSC certified for your home and business. These are products that have come from sustainably managed forests, where trees are replanted and not clear cut.

I installed a timer in the bathroom so it does not suck heated air from the house after 10 minutes are up.
  • Reflection Question
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

By investing in geothermal bonds, you will not own a part of the company of the respective firm, but you are rather creditor and lend the firm money on which you get a certain interest payment.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Use Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

Exploring areas of shared concern among diverse stakeholders could provide an entry point for dialogue, action and policy toward change.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Use Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

Trees provide shade and a nice place to rest. Fruit trees provide treats for decades.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Use Buy Bamboo
Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

I made bamboo pickles from my neighbor's invasive bamboo chutes. I also used the hardened bamboo for stakes in the garden.

It's proving to be more difficult than I thought to remove palm oil from my daily diet.

I agree. My daughter brought this issue to my attention because orangutans are endangered, and the palm oil industry causes deforestation that disrupts orangutan habitats.
