  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Lucy G 5/22/2024 7:24 AM
You can consider putting geothermal pumps to help heat your home if you are in the right location, and spread awareness about geothermal energy to other people that you know.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

I had heard of it before, but I didn’t know that much about it. The thing that surprised me the most is that we can use waste to generate energy!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Lucy G 5/15/2024 6:40 AM
Microturbines could be installed on tall buildings like on the roof of the Asheville city building.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Lucy G's avatar
    Lucy G 4/30/2024 6:00 AM
We can not buy products that we know have been made in places where peatlands have been drained. We can also encourage others to do the same by telling our friends or posting on social media.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Lucy G's avatar
    Lucy G 4/28/2024 4:45 PM
One benefit is that you wash smaller dishes, which wastes less water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Lucy G's avatar
    Lucy G 4/25/2024 5:33 AM
My eating experience was different because I was able to connect with the people I was eating with more, and enjoy my food more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I noticed that lots of places near my neighborhood are changing. There are lots of new things being built.
