  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

I am unsure why richer countries eat more meat. I would assume its from the access to the meat. Eating meat can affect the health of our bodies, for example too much red meat can be bad for us. The raising of cows in large numbers impacts the environment in a negative way too.

Action Track: Healing & Renewal Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

I noticed that I spent more time talking to my roommates instead of focused on social media or schoolwork. Food became more enjoyable instead of something that is a task while doing something else.

What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I notice the sounds of natures on my walk and the way it works. I enjoy nature a lot and taking it in. I live right along the Erie Canal so the walks are easily enjoyable and do not have much to distract me from nature, except for a few houses.

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Women-Owned Businesses
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

I tend to try and shop on etsy or locally for presents and small things I need that can be found here. The other day I purchased a couple of graphic tee shirts off of an etsy page. I try to find women or POC owned businesses on Etsy. By supporting women I am helping to empower the and give them resources.
  • Reflection Question
    Land Sinks Buy Bamboo
Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

Due to the use of online shopping the accessibility to bamboo products is relatively easy. My roommates and I use a bamboo dish brush, instead of a sponge, and we use bamboo toothbrushes. We find it challenging to switch everything that could be bamboo to it. However, we are trying to slowly find affordable alternatives that eliminate some of our plastic use.

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

A sustainable community is a place where people are mindful of the impact they are having on our planet. People are intentional with the waste they produce and the products they use, as well as the impact these have on the environment. In order for this to become reality, everyone in a community would have to make the conscious decision to make sustainable choices.

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

My roommates and I decided to spend the day going to a small park we had never been to. We drove out there together and then spent almost an hour walking around and looking at the ice floating in the lake. We, of course, took pictures. However, we mostly just walked around and looked at the way the beach looked in the middle of February.
