  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives
What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/29/2024 7:52 AM
a lot of people around me also agree that this is important so they also want to help with energy issues.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/28/2024 11:56 AM
daily walks are a good way to take in the infrastructure in your area and I think that there aren't that many changes that need to be made in my area.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/28/2024 11:49 AM
I learned that grocery stores use lot of refrigerants which can result in climate change.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/24/2024 9:38 AM
I think my town can offer more public transport, and things like apartments so more people can afford to live in an environmentally friendly environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/17/2024 11:06 AM
I think these barriers exist for a lot of different reasons. They could exist for financial reasons, such as poverty. They could also exist for religious or cultural reasons. In history, women have usually had less rights than men. I think we could address this by helping women living below the poverty line to have access to the things that they need, so they don’t go down a bad path in life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/15/2024 12:12 PM
I learned that family planning is very important to having a healthy population size, and is vital to human rights. How many kids someone chooses to have is completely up to them and nobody else. Some places even ban things like contraceptives and birth control, to control population size. Banning anti pregnancy products is very bad for human rights.
I think the needs of overpopulated countries is a decrease in population size, while countries with less population would want to increase it. However neither of these situations is an excuse to violate human rights. If you allowed people to choose if, when, and how many kids they had, it would probably end up fine.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/14/2024 10:59 AM
I think a 3 million dollar investment would be a good idea for this, because it could help release less fossil fuels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/13/2024 11:09 AM
    Buildings at higher elevations
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/09/2024 11:14 AM
No, I did not know about biomass energy before this. It surprised me that renewable materials can be converted into fuel.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Audrey Dodson's avatar
    Audrey Dodson 5/03/2024 10:45 AM
I think you can purchase less palm oil, paper, or anything else that uses peatlands to grow.
