I am glad to be a part of this and it has helped to restore the environmentalist in me that went quiet in recent years. Thank you Harley!

Today, I cleaned up litter and swept away the road salt at the commuter train station near my home. The Challenge says to try to do this at a bus stop, but no public bus stops near me.  So the train station it is.  Felt good to do the clean up.  Thanks to my teammates for the push.

On my personal Facebook page, I posted the following about my own personal connection to Earth Day    -- "Happy Earth Day 50 everyone! The original Earth Day 50 years ago definitely changed the trajectory of my life (along with the Vietnam War and the recent murders of Reverend King and Senator Kennedy). The 1968 to 1970 period of years was a 1-2-3-4 punch to this little kid's brain. As for 50 years ago today: I remember everything about Earth Day 1970, including all the school kids packed into the courtyard of Woodland School in Weston Mass, and the overwhelming feeling that to change the wrong direction of the world at that time, it was on the young people to really step up. The amazing public school teachers I was so lucky to have that year taught us that day and all that year that young people could succeed if we cared enough, tried hard enough, worked together, sought common ground. And I remember that on 4/22/1970 I declared myself to be president of the "Save the Whales Club of the Fourth Grade." Ever since I've been saving trees and birds and whales and advocating for racial equity and good things like that. Or at least trying to. Or at least believing all those same good concepts from fourth grade. It can be so demoralizing in recent years seeing the sliding backwards in civil rights and environmental issues which I've worked on for decades, but people really can't let up and I for one will keep on trying and hoping. Thank you to my public school teachers at Woodland School for giving me a better and more purposeful life."
